Veterans, Active-Duty Military, and Family members with a military ID have a special opportunity to receive groceries on Friday, June 19, at Midwest Veterans Closet, at the organization’s Juneteenth mobile food distribution event.
“These mobile food distribution opportunities, as available, provide an extra opportunity to supplement a veteran or military family with additional food assistance,” said founder and board president Mary Carmody.
Veterans are encouraged to take advantage of the food assistance available once a week to veterans, active-duty military personnel and their families at Midwest Veterans Closet.
Distribution is done on a first-come, first-served basis at Midwest Veterans Closet, 1720 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, Illinois, for both their regular food program and the mobile food distribution. Those looking to receive groceries must only present a veteran, military, or dependent ID.
Mobile Food Distribution events are done in partnership with Northern Illinois Food Bank.
Recipients of these groceries can expect to find a different distribution of food items than they typically would during regular shopping at Midwest Veterans Closet.
“Our clients know us as the place where Veterans can shop for free. We do that every week; however, this opportunity provides a different opportunity to stock a kitchen with food items that we don’t carry every day. One stop will really fill your pantry!” said Robin Korom, board chairperson with Midwest Veterans Closet.
