Midwest Veterans Closet continues its monthly Mobile Market Food Distribution on Thursday, October 1. Active-duty military, veterans, and their families may use their military ID to pick up a special selection of grocery items from Northern Illinois Food Bank.
Midwest Veterans Closet offers twelve Mobile Market opportunities per year. Markets are generally held on the first Thursday of every month, and will continue to provide additional food assistance beyond the food program offered three days per week at Midwest Veterans Closet.
“We’re so pleased to be able to make these Mobile Market opportunities a feature of our regular programming at Midwest Veterans Closet,” said Executive Director Steve Samuelson. “We’re eager to offer businesses and community organizations the opportunity to join in sponsoring these events along with us.”
A named sponsorship offers the opportunity to sponsor the event by providing a one-time fee covering costs for the market. In turn, this sponsorship will also provide the opportunity to help by staffing the event, whereby a volunteer crew from the sponsoring entity can help to load client vehicles on the day of the event. This is a great way to exercise corporate and civic philanthropy, while helping those in need.
Sponsorships take two forms—the first will be a named sponsorship in which businesses sponsor the event by providing a one-time fee covering costs for the market. The other opportunity will be to help by staffing the event, in which a volunteer crew from a local business helps to load client vehicles.
“So often, local businesses are looking for ways to practically serve the community beyond their daily operations,” said Samuelson. “Events like our Mobile Market are the perfect opportunity for businesses to get hands on the ground. Bring a group of employees and we’ll be able to put them to work so that they can not only help veterans, but really get to know the people that have served our country in the line of duty.”
Distribution is done on a first-come, first-served basis at Midwest Veterans Closet, 1720 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, Illinois. Those looking to receive groceries must only present a veteran, military, or dependent ID. Local businesses, community organizations, and religious organizations are invited to download a flyer to publicize the event.
In addition to the Mobile Market, veterans, active-duty military and their families are encouraged to take advantage of the regular food assistance available once a week at Midwest Veterans Closet.
