Midwest Veterans Closet is expanding its Mobile Market Food Distribution to a regular monthly event beginning on Thursday, September 3. As before, active-duty military, veterans, and their families may use their military ID to pick up a special selection of grocery items from Northern Illinois Food Bank.
Long a staple of the programming at Midwest Veterans Closet, Mobile Market opportunities will be expanding to twelve per year. Markets will be generally held on the first Thursday of every month, and will continue to provide additional food assistance beyond the food program offered three days per week at Midwest Veterans Closet.
“We’re excited to expand the amount of opportunities to offer the Mobile Market to our clients at Midwest Veterans Closet,” said Executive Director Steve Samuelson. “We’ve already been doing these regularly throughout the year, but to make this something that our clients can count on once per month will provide life-changing assistance for many in the veterans community.”
In addition to making this opportunity a regular feature of Midwest Veterans Closet’s program, there are also special opportunities for businesses to become a sponsor of these events.
“We’re constantly trying to find opportunities to meaningfully help our community partners give back to the veteran community.” said Samuelson. “By offering sponsorships we create practical ways in which sponsors can literally put food in our clients hands and volunteer in person.”
Sponsorships will take two forms—the first will be a named sponsorship in which businesses sponsor the event by providing a one-time fee the market to arrive. The other opportunity will be to help by staffing the event, in which a volunteer crew helps to load client vehicles.
Distribution is done on a first-come, first-served basis at Midwest Veterans Closet, 1720 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, Illinois. Those looking to receive groceries must only present a veteran, military, or dependent ID. Local businesses, community organizations, and religious organizations are invited to download a flyer to publicize the event.
In addition to the Mobile Market, Veterans are encouraged to take advantage of the regular food assistance available once a week to veterans, active-duty military personnel and their families at Midwest Veterans Closet.
