Veterans and Active-Duty Military Personnel will find a selection of food, household items, durable goods, and clothing available for free at Midwest Veterans Closet. Our stock is rotated throughout the day, ensuring that high quantities are available whenever you stop by to shop!
We’re open from 11:00am-3:00pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Those wanting to shop at the closet need only bring their military ID.
What to Expect
When you arrive, you’ll enter through the doors on the south side of our building where a member of our volunteer staff will check you in to our system.Be sure to be ready to present a military ID when shopping Midwest Veterans Closet. From there, you’ll be assigned a number if you’re shopping for food. If you’re shopping for household items, you may also have to wait so that we can regulate the numbers shopping at any one time. We have a small waiting area inside where you’ll wait for your number to be called.
Frequently at the beginning of the day, we may have a lot of people wanting to shop. In the event that we have more clients than space available, you may be asked to wait, potentially outside, for your turn to shop. All clients are encouraged to come later in the morning when the number of clients makes for shorter wait times.
Food Pantry
Midwest Veteran’s Closet offers shopping to our food pantry once a week. Clients will find a shopping opportunity where veterans, active duty military personnel, and their families are able to shop independently. We receive donations regularly throughout the week from businesses and individuals alike.
While those shopping are able to take their time as they navigate through our food pantry, shoppers should expect to spend less than 20 minutes looking for goods.
While shoppers are able to choose their own goods, there are guidelines for what our shoppers are allowed to choose from. Limits vary based on the donations that are on hand. Shoppers can expect to choose from a number of different product categories including shelf stable items, fresh baked goods, fresh and frozen meats, refrigerated produce, and produce straight from Midwest Veteran’s Closet’s garden.
Shoppers will be assisted with taking their shopping bags to their vehicle volunteers from Midwest Veterans Closet. Please bring your own bags, bags are not provided!
